Simon Baston
Simon Baston hails from Wales in the UK where he had a construction company. In 1999, he formed a development partnership in Wales for both Residential and Commercial projects that developed “brownfield” sites that retained the commercial elements.
In September 2006, Simon moved to Vancouver with the view to develop high-end ‘green’ buildings on the North Shore. He has built small, simple, well designed, low value units in the UK, and continues to take a keen interest in all environmental issues. He hopes to be able to increase awareness that all homes, regardless of size, can meet strict sustainable standards.
Eileen Keenan M.A., Dip. Arch., RIBA, IA, LEED® AP
Born in Northern Ireland, Eileen studied Architecture at the University of Edinburgh, specializing in energy efficient and passive solar design. She has since worked in the field of Architecture and Design for more than 15 years in both Europe and Canada, working on major commercial and institutional projects. She has served as a member of the Vancouver City Planning Commission and on the City’s Urban Design Panel.
Her interest in environmental and humanitarian issues has led her to undertake voluntary design and construction work in areas as diverse as India and Canada’s Northwest Territories. More recently she traveled to Biloxi, Mississippi to work with Architecture for Humanity on hurricane Katrina reconstruction efforts. Eileen currently works with Light House Sustainable Building Centre and Builders Without Borders.
David Poskitt
David is a Residential Designer with Poskitt Design Ltd. working primarily in West Vancouver for over thirty-seven years. For the last seven years he has also been active as a committee member in the City of North Vancouver working on sustainable urban planning.
The LEED for Homes project is an important sustainability program initiative for the residential design and construction industry. David is pleased to be part of the consulting team to learn and implement the LEED for Homes rating system.
Bob Laird
As the owner of Laird Custom Homes Ltd., Bob has been building homes and renovations on the North Shore and West Side of Vancouver for a over ten years.
He feels that the implementation of construction materials and methods that offer environmentally friendly alternatives to homeowners while lessening the impact to the planet is a socially responsible choice; and that this will certainly be the way of the future for residential construction.
Ruth Mason
Ruth has been designing in the residential market since 2001. She trained at BCIT and with the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and has many years experience in project management, public space planning and marketing with the Pattison Group of Companies and the Vancouver Aquarium. Ruth respects the balance between return on invested capital, environmental impact and critical market reach.
Her environmental interests include sustainability of the built environment; healthy interiors designed to fit all lifestyles; and lighting design with a focus on effective use of low energy options. Ruth feels the LEED for Homes pilot project is an exceptional opportunity to demonstrate sustainable and ethical building practices in single family housing, while showcasing the beauty and comfort of green-design materials and systems. She sees this as a timely and truly exciting project dedicated to transforming the future of the high-end residential community.

Why Choose a LEED Home?
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system is a third party certification program and a nationally accepted benchmark of design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED provides building owners and operators with the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings performance.
Last year the Northwest Multiple Listing Service(NWMLS) tracked the sale of environmentally certified homes and found that green homes certified by a third party sold for 10.55% premium on a square foot basis. These homes have increased benefits such as reduced exposure to mold, mildew and other indoor toxins. You can explore case studies on a variety of LEED-certified homes at www.thegreenhomeguide.org
LEED certification provides independent, third party verification that a building project is environmentally responsible, profitable and a healthy place to live and work. LEED for homes system covers the following areas:
- Innovation and design process (ID)
- Location and linkages (LL)
- Sustainable sites (SS)
- Water efficiency (WE)
- Energy and atmosphere (EA)
- Materials and resources (MR)
- Indoor environmental quality (EQ)
- Awareness and education (AE)
Points are awarded in a LEED for homes ratings system for building a home with a high performance external envelope, high efficiency heating system and water fixtures, energy efficient lighting, drought tolerant landscaping, and outstanding indoor air quality.
Click here to visit the Canada Green Building Council LEED for home section.
All Leading Homes will be LEED certified. They will be an R2000 home with energy star rated appliances, drought tolerant garden, maximum use of sustainable materials, and a organic garden patch. All homes will be unique in design and form but built to the exacting standards that will "future proof" your home.
